3 Musketeers Ride Again: August 22, 2019

As the great author Shakespeare wrote, “…parting is such sweet sorrow…”.  And is it was, when we had to pack up our motorcycles and head out to the next adventure.  Deleyne, you are such a great hostess.  On behalf of Athos (Ties), Porthos (Larry) and myself Aramis (myself) (I’m doing the writing, so I get to pick), we bid you fair adieu.  I hope that while you are in Edmonton this fall, I will be able to take you out to some of Edmonton’s more exotic ethnic restaurants.

Looking at the mid 30 and low 40 temperatures south of our location we decided to head towards the west coast.  Our route today basically took us west on interstate 84 through Twin Falls Idaho, on to Boise, and then finishing our day in Ontario, Oregon.

Snake River Canyon at Twin Falls

The first hour(ish) of the ride was fairly uneventful.  Then as we rounded a bend just as we started into the valley, the winds slammed us.  For pretty much the rest of the riding day we fought with winds that were around 40kmph with gusts into the 60 kmph range.  Very exhausting.  Seeing signs that read ” frequent strong winds”,  “occasional blinding dust”, “warning, dust storm area” and signs showing big trucks on theirs sides, did nothing to endure the route to me.  At one point we stopped at a rest area and did some load rearranging on the motorcycle. Reaching Boise fully intact, (and very thankful) we decided it was time to just sit and relax, allow the muscles a chance to unknot themselves and give the joints a moment to get the kinks out.

The very cool bridge at Twin Falls

Fortunately, the winds somewhat subsided and the rest of the ride to Ontario was much smoother.  We did take some time in Twin Falls to have a bit of a peak around.  The Snake River (made famous by Evil Knievel) through Twin Falls has carved out a stunning valley.

Be that as it may, I cannot think of a single reason I would ever ride 2 wheels on interstate 84 through this area again.  If fact, I would say if you are thinking about doing it, don’t.

So it is time for this totally exhausted rider to bid you adieu also.
