We started our day with a trip to Herm’s Inn Restaurant in the picturesque Logan River valley. Herm’s was a service station back in the era when fuel was hand pumped into a glass vessel and then drained into the vehicle.
In the remodelling of the place they worked very hard to preserve some of basic nature of the building at the same time as modernizing it. Good food and again, it is worth the stop.
After the amazing stuffed sour dough French toast and not having had enough chocolate yesterday, Deleyne led us on a walking tour of down town with the highlight being a stop at the Bluebird Candy Company, where, of course several dark chocolates jumped off the shelves and into a bag with my name on it. Of course others bought some chocolate also.
Continuing on our tour of the core, we stopped at a bakery followed by a terrific curio shop.
Leaving the core we made our way to the Logan Tabernacle where one of the wonderful Logan Tabernacle guides. She shared with us, the fascinating history of the Tabernacle, the construction of which was started in 1865 and completed in 1891.
The Tabernacle has a pipe organ that consists of 2,800 pipes. Unfortunately no one was available to play it for us. After a complete tour of the Tabernacle with went to the Family History Center where we were introduced to the system they use to track ones ancestry. We were given initial instructions and help to start building our family trees. It proved to be an amazingly well laid out and refined software. Now that our accounts are set up, it is very easy to log on from home and continue building the family tree. I was amazed at the resources that their system linked into and how quickly it was able to make the connection to my father. I can’t wait to continue.
After a short break back at Deleyne’s, off we went to Crumb Brothers for a late lunch where I had delightful spinach and goat cheese salad. As we sat outdoors we were serenaded with a selection of Alexa tunes that included Freddie Fender, The Righteous Brothers, KD Lang, and Celine Dion as well as Dean Martin. (I really like Alexa and its all your fault Deleyne).
Then somebody who’s name won’t be mentioned, Larry, suggested that it was time for another ice cream run, only it had to be one of that person’s favourite flavours, that being licorice or bubble gum, but I’m not mentioning names. After a few phone calls it was discovered that Gossner foods had licorice ice cream, so off we trundled. It turned out that Larry had already paid for a double scoop for me.
Being someone prone to culinary adventures and willing to try almost any food at least once, I asked each of the 2 ladies behind the counter what their favourite flavours were? The lady serving me was really tickled that I asked them about what they liked and I ended up with two of the largest scoops of ice cream I have ever seen in my life. The other three of us finished their ice cream and had to wait almost 20 more minutes until I finished mine. Anyhow, time for me to lay down on my side and rest my tummy.
