The day greeted us this morning with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid teens and we knew it will only get hotter. After breakfast and a series of farewells to our wonderful hostess and host, Sherrie and Marty, we reluctantly fired up the bikes.
The reluctance soon dissipated when we rolled onto highway 93 and ramped up the speed as we headed south. The pavement has an unusually course surface that seemed to have limitless grip as rolled through curve after curve after cure. Paralleling the Salmon River we began to think that it would never run out of twists.
As we crested a rise we were greeted with a very surprising view that made the road look like it was going to just vanish into the side of a massive rock face. There was absolutely no indication that the road curved, left or right, or up, or down. It just looked like it ended at the wall. In the last few moments as we approached the rock face, the road curved to the right and into what the Grandview Canyon. The visual effect as we approached was very similar to that scene in Indiana Jones where he can’t see the rock bridge. Not sure how this works, but dropped out of the canyon into valley where we parted company with the Salmon river. By now the temperature was pushing into the 30s. Time for a stop. We found a little Ma & Pa restaurant (a passion of mine is to try local Ma & Pa restaurants when travelling). Larry and I both had a chefs salad the size of which I have neve seen in my life. The terms massive and gargantuan come to mind.
Our route took us near the Lost River, which literally disappears before your eyes. It seems that the ground just absorbs the river and nobody seems to know why. The temperature is now about 36.5 degrees C as we near interstate 15.
Rolling into Pocatello at the slower speeds, the Enterprise reached the temperature red-line just as we pulled in to the hotel parking lot. Checked in and headed for the swimming pool and hot tub.

You headed to the hot tub?
Yup. It was great way to relax the lower back and sciatic. Then to the cooler pool.
