From See Two See: July 26, 2019

Hard to believe that this is our last sleep on the road.  The day went smoothly as we zipped through Kamloops, past Clearwater, Blue River, Valemount etc. Greg had flashbacks to his down hill skiing era when we drove right past the Mike Wigley Heli Skiing head office.

We have driven this route before several times and we are always awed by our first glimpse of the mountains.  We noticed that the green is starting to come back in the Louis Creek area.

There was quite a fire there in 2003 and it was good to see that trees are growing, even if they are just baby trees. We were all prepared to stop at Mt Robinson but there were clouds so we couldn’t see the top.  Luckily we have seen it once, though we did talk to a couple who had stopped there around 25 times and only managed to see the top once. We saw elk and goats along the way.  I tried to take a picture but wasn’t fast enough.

I always had this fantasy that we would build a house on top of a mountain.  So when I go through the mountains I always look for which mountain I would choose.  Imagine the view!  I figured that we would get good satellite reception! And while I imagine the view, Greg talked about the great ham radio range we would have.

It seemed appropriate that our goal for today was Gregg Lake in William A. Switzer park outside of Hinton. Maybe it was named after Greg.  We had hoped to stay here for two nights but we could only book a spot for tonight.  Even though we booked this a week ago guess we needed to do it a tad sooner than that.  Many decades ago on one of our very first camping trips we stayed at the same campsite in a tent, late in the season.  The next morning it was so cold in the tent that our little mirror was coated with frost.  After thawing ourselves out, we drove into Hinton to the only hardware store in town and bought a propane fired heater.

We used it in the evening to take the chill out before we went to sleep and again to deal with the morning chill and frost.  Now all we had to do is set a thermostat.  We will enjoy the trees and wonderful smell of the forest around us as well as watch for bears.  We (at the time I write this) didn’t see any bears but right beside our RV is a mama moose and baby, eating nonchalantly.
