Sometimes I wonder about myself. A few months ago I was reading a book in which the story took place in the sand dunes of Saskatchewan. Greg and I talked about visiting this area on our trip. So here we are leaving Swift Current and I suddenly wonder where they are in relation to where we are. Google maps tells us that they are 150 km in the other direction. Oops. So we have started a list of things to see in Saskatchewan. Besides the sand dunes we also have Little Manitou Lake, a salt water lake near Saskatoon. One of the problems in travelling is that one can’t see everything. We weren’t too worried about the nearby provinces as we can visit them easily.
We headed into Alberta and for the first time saw big fields of flax. The flax was either just beginning to blossom or were just pass their prime. They are a lovely shade of purply blue or bluish purple. They certainly are in the minority of crops.
When we were passing through Medicine Hat we saw 3CMR and 175 in large letters on the side of the hill. We had no idea of what they stood for. It turns out that it stands for the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles and the 175th (Medicine Hat) Battalion. These were two of the major military units raised in Medicine Hat in the first world war.
We arrived in Calgary and headed to the Deerfoot Inn and Casino. Last year when Greg was on the 3 Flags Classic Motorcycle trip he won a free night at the hotel. He had to use it by August this year or he lost it. So we parked our RV in the parking lot and spent the night. What added to the treat was that we had supper with Fran and Brian ( Greg’s sister and brother-in-law). Even managed to fit in a spirited discussion of provincial and federal politics.

I had no idea that there were sand dunes in Saskatchewan.
At first we never knew, then we did know, then we forgot that we knew, then we remembered that we did know but didn’t remember. And now we know……we think.
Great motorcycle picture.
I wonder if it runs.
Thanks,
Bro Larry
What a creative work of art.
