From See Two See: June 27, 2019

Another beautiful day. Temperatures around 28.  Rode from Levis to Quebec City through to the Old Quebec City which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  As we rolled through the old streets 2 things stood out.  One was how much the Old City reminded us of our motorcycle trip through the communities in the Austrian Alps.  The other was the complete lack of motorcycles (more about this later).

The gate to the Old City

We randomly turned left and right, down steep grades, around hairpin turns and through ever narrowing streets until we found ourselves near the waterfront.  Finding a parking space, we decided to park.   I am sure people wondered what we were doing as we took off our pants and jackets and stuffed them away in the bike.  As we had parked down the near the waterfront we had to walk up more flights of stairs than we could count as we decided we would go as high as we could.

Champlain

We sat under a statute of Champlain sipping on our frappuccino and watched a street performer from Australia whirl around on hula hoops; some of them on fire. We so enjoyed the day meandering up and down the streets and looking at all the cafes, galleries and other interesting shops.

Discovering an outdoor restaurant at which a pianist was tickling the ivories, we decided a meal would help us savour the moment.  Well, it didn’t xactly end there.  As we roamed the narrow streets, we didn’t make it down the first lane when our next discovery was an ice-cream shop that served ice-cream in the same manner as we had on our Adriatic trip.  Shortly after that discovery, we found ourselves sitting on a shady park  bench in the 29 degree temperature, enjoying the ice-cream, the views, the people and just the total ambiance.

Hotel Frontenac

As we explored the nooks and crannies, we found ourselves back at the Old City Fort gates that we had ridden through when we first arrived.  That was when we noticed the sign that forbids any and all motorcycles from riding through the same streets we had ridden through earlier.  As near as we were able to discern, some brands of motorcycles are really really loud and would echo horribly through the narrow stone building lined streets.  So they just banned all motorcycles, except for really nice Albertan tourists riding a BMW.   We found a different route out. A lovely city (the part we saw) and we so enjoyed the day. We now wished we had planned to stay longer.

  1. Haven’t been commenting but so enjoying revisiting many of these places. We also saw the Bay of Fundy at low tide and then high at the very same place. Unbelievable. Sorry about your keys. Anxious to see where you will be heading for the remainder of your trip as I am sure I will not have been there. Keep on RV’ing!

    1. Yeah, the Bay of Fundy is very amazing. Not too worried about the keys. Not likely the bad guys will even find out where we are, we hardly know where we are. As far as where we are going next, well……ha ha not going to say. You will have to keep reading. Mostly because we don’t really know where we’re going next ourselves, so its hard to tell others.
