From See Two See: June 15, 2019

Hard to believe we have been travelling for a month and there is so much more to see.  After we checked out of the motel in Baddeck, still sitting in the parking lot, we pulled out a map of Nova Scotia to try and decide where we might go next. We decide on Grand Pre as Greg hasn’t been here before and we have been reading about some of the things that happened to the Acadians as they figured in the history of some of the places we have already visited.  We thought we would take the long way there so we headed around the Sunrise Coast and Celtic Shore Coastal Trails. Wow! What fantastic motorcycle roads.  Amazing to find roads  like this in our own country. The scenery just doesn’t seem to quit here.

View from the great motorcycle route Celtic Shores.

We made a few stops along the way. As we were driving through Whycocomagh we saw a sign for a bakery, which meant we had to stop for a look. While we didn’t buy anything there we saw a store called the Farmer’s Daughter across the street.

Still on the Celtic Shores

We did force ourselves to get an ice-cream….yummy (Farmer’s ice-cream). Everyone should have ice-cream for lunch.  We hadn’t gone too far when we saw a sign for Glenora Distillery.

Another stop was in order. We learned that this was North America’s first single malt whiskey distillery which started in 1990 (their whiskey  is called Glen Breton Rare) and is made with only 3 ingredients malt barley, yeast and water.  For more about Glenora Distillery (click here). We did need to sample a smidgen. Not bad. I think a bottle found its way into our truck.  Off we went again.  Once again some beautiful scenery and some great motorcycle roads.

As we were passing Antigonish Greg read  a sign advertising chocolate “Peace by Chocolate”. This name struck a chord and a quick check  showed my memory was correct. These chocolates were made by Syrian refugees who came to Canada 3 years ago. The shop we visited was where they started; making the chocolates  in the attached house. They have been successful and now have opened a larger factory. Each chocolate has the word peace on it in various languages. Their chocolates can be found at Sobeys, and for a short time only, in our cooler bag (sorry Carol, just this once). It is nice to hear good stories.  Off we went again and this time didn’t stop till we reached Grand Pre.   Arriving at Grand Pre, we checked into the first place we spotted which turned out to be a very smart move.  We got the last room at the Inn as there is a big motorcycle meet going on here this weekend.  Will have to check it out along Evangeline and expulsion of the Acadians tomorrow.
