Dalmatian Coast September 20 & 21, 2018

Today was a travel day so there won’t be any photos in this posting.   It is 2200hrs CEST as I write this. Fatigued and exhausted but still semi-functional. The short version is that after 1 minivan, 1 bus, 1 ocean, 2 airlines, 4 airports, 9 time zones, 27.5 hours of travel and 11,000 kilometers we are now at our jump-off point in the city of Tirana in Albania.

The day started off with my sister getting up at some ridiculous hour to take us to the EIA. Upon arrival, the young Air Canada lady was extremely helpful. She changed our seating so that we could sit together, obtained all 0f the boarding passes for the entire trip and was able to check our luggage right through to Albania. We so appreciated her extra efforts. Unlike many of the Air Canada flights we have had in recent years, the seat worked, the view screen worked, the audio worked, and there was enough room between the seats that my knees were not trashed by the seat in front of me.

Next airline was Austrian Air. What a class act. The plane was a 767-300. Plenty of leg room for me, plenty of storage, state-of-art audio/visual system, seats that did not feel like one was sitting on a steel frame, wine and beer is served as a matter of course on all Austrian Air flights. We did a second 1 hour jaunt with Austrian Air on which even on this short flight they served snacks and drinks, including no-charge beer and wine. Very very impressed. Would book with Austrian Air in a flash.

So there is the short update. Oh yes, although we left home on September 20th, we arrived in Tirana on September 21st. Good night to all

  1. Glad to hear one positive comment about Air Canada.
I refuse to fly with that ridiculous airline after many years of frustration with their exceptionally low level of customer service. Maybe they are starting to improve. Sounds like a fatiguing but successful trip so far. Thx

  2. Will be checking rhis often, Greg. I live vicariously through the lives of others, on the one hand, but on the other have genuine concern for you and MM. Get some rest. This WAS a vacation, n’est pas?
